Adapt & Win

I’ve wanted to have a hobby for so long! I really wanted to find something I’d be good at so I would be able to say “I did that!” and be proud of myself. Photography has been an interest of mine for as long as I can remember. I never thought it would be possible for me after my accident though. After reading the quote, “Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking about,” I realized that I needed to figure it out somehow. I decided to finally purchase my first camera! Little did I know, there are touch screen cameras that you can also connect to your phone. That makes it 100% easier for me! The best ways I’ve figured out for me to take pictures are :

1. Set my camera somewhere, use a timer, and use my phone to adjust all the settings & take the picture.

2. Put the camera strap around my neck & set the camera on a book in my lap (so my knees aren’t in the picture), then I can touch wherever on the camera screen to take a picture.

3. If I need to hold the camera at an angle for a picture, I will set the timer on 10 seconds to give me enough time to use both of my hands to hold it.

I’m not always at the best angle & sometimes I miss some really good shots, but that just makes me much more excited when I do get a good shot! I might wake up sore the next day because I swear my camera weighs a thousand pounds, but it’s totally worth it. If you really want to do something, you can figure out a way to make it possible. Don’t give up on something that could make you happy!

  1. Emmie,
Hope your New Year is a great one. Our wheelchair community is the best for finding new progressive ways to live as healthy as possible. My friend Jesse Stracham could possibly have some good insight on UTI’s for you.
    Wishing you the best
